On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking forward from 73 station on the starboard side of the mess showing two double tier bunk units and an air conditioning unit against the ship's side. A table and chairs are on the left with a greatcoat locker beyond them. Kit lockers are against the forward bulkhead.
