On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 61½ and 67 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from near the centreline at 63 station showing a kitchenette in the corner with an hot water urn and two beer dispensers. Two air conditioning units are above settee benches which line the bulkheads and a folding table and chair is in the centre.
