On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 61½ and 67 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to port from near the centreline at 66 station showing settee benches on either side and a folding table is in the centre. Against the port bulkhead are a bookshelf and a clock which reads 08.16. The entrance lobby is in the left background. A television with a letter rack next to it is sitting on top of a refrigerator and a noticeboard is behind it, fixed to the back of kit lockers.
