On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to port from the starboard side at 22½ station showing a fire extinguisher, a triple tier bunk unit, an electric fire, a tea locker, a bread locker, a distribution box and an air conditioning unit against the forward bulkhead. A folding table with cups stacked on it is in the right foreground.
