On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from the port side at 30 station showing, on the left, the stairs up to the passageway on 2 deck with a folding table and a tubular chair in the left foreground. A triple tier bunk unit is on the right. Against the forward bulkhead are two fuse panels, a fire extinguisher, a pressure gauge, an automatic emergency lantern, a stowage box for handlamps, a fire hose stowage rack and a commercial pin-up calender for May 1970. A vertical format negative.
