Ardent off Lowestoft Monday 16th Oct 1797

An original watercolour of 'Ardent' in port-broadside view with her sails set. Under the portrait, a hand-written inscription states: "Ardent off Lowestoft Monday 16th Oct 1797."

'Ardent' was one of the British ships that received the most damage at the Battle of Camperdown in 1797. She was originally the East Indiaman 'Princess Royal'.
