On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the conversion machinery and radar power room between 31 and 35½ stations on the starboard side of 3 deck looking aft and to port showing the main battery unit with the venting hood above it. Fire extinguishers and an automatic emergency lantern are alongside the door on the right. Various fuse, distribution and starter panels are on the port and the aft bulkheads.
