On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' dining hall between 52 and 56½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to port and slightly forward from 54 station showing folding tables and benches set athwartships. On the left is a dresser with two 4-slice toasters above it and a cold water dispenser beyond it. An automatic emergency lantern and a large air conditioning unit are next to the dining hall door.
