On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the port side of 1 deck amidships looking to starboard and slightly forward showing the potato locker between 47¾ and 49 stations. Alongside the potato locker is a watertight hatch leading down to the passageway on 2 deck and on the right is the open door to the forward part of the helicopter hangar.
