On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 30¾ and 41 stations on 2 deck looking aft from 31 station showing the door to the communications control room annexe on the right with a cable stowage bracket and an international compressed air breathing apparatus Mk. 2 cabinet next to it. On the right are the hatch leading down to 3 deck and the door to the main communications office. Above the hatch are three refrigerator warning lamps and an instruction notice. The watertight door at 41 station is open.
