On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking to starboard from 37 station on the centreline of 01 deck showing the air treatment unit vents. Under a canvas cover on the left is the 2 inch rocket flare launcher and on the right is the single 20 mm oerlikon gun. Berthed on the north side of No. 3 basin is the Batch 2 Leander class frigate Juno (1965) and she has an awning rigged aft.
