On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the gunnery direction position between 31½ and 33½ stations on 01 deck looking aft and to starboard showing telephones, microphones, speakers, tannoys and a change-over switch on the aft screen. The support tower for the MRS 3 director is in the background. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay.
