On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the gunnery direction position between 31½ and 33½ stations on 01 deck looking forward and to starboard showing the gunnery direction officer's master sight manufactured by Rose Brothers (Gainsborough) Ltd. the sight is trained off the starboard bow. Loudspeakers, a tannoy, microphones, a range recorder and a target indication gong are against the screens. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. A vertical format negative.
