On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the emergency conning position between 46 and 47½ stations on 01 deck looking aft and to port showing the pelorus. Wooden ladders are on the right leading up to scaffolding which is round the funnel. The boiler room downtake and the hangar are on the left. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. A vertical format negative.
