On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking aft from the starboard side of 01 deck at 36 station showing the 20 mm oerlikon gun. The 27 feet motor whaler is missing from its davits. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. Alongside the east quay is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962) working cargo with stores lighter C92 alongside. the pendant number of the Bacchus (1962) is A404.
