On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the diesel generator compartment between 6 and 11½ stations on 2 deck looking forward and to port from 11 station showing an acoustic booth mounted on a pillar on the centreline. The port Paxman diesel engine and its Brush Electrical Engineering Company Limited generator are in the background and the starboard Brush Electrical Engineering Company Limited generator is in the right foreground.
