On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the diesel generator compartment between 6 and 11½ stations on 2 deck looking aft along the port side from 8 station showing the port Paxman diesel engine and Brush Electrical engineering Company generator on the left and the ship's side on the right. A large air bottle and a nest of drawers are against the aft bulkhead.
