On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the starboard side of the flight deck looking aft at the R.A.S. (replenishment at sea) mast in its stowed position between 68 and 71 stations on 2 deck. A wooden box covers the bollards in the foreground. The Limbo mortar well is on the right and the quarterdeck is covered by an awning. The bow of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962) is in the background berthed against the east wall of the basin.
