The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). The funnel, mainmast and hangar from the quayside.

The Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the quayside abreast the foremast looking to starboard, aft and up showing her funnel, emergency conning position and hangar, which has the mainmast, with IFF interrogation antenna at the top, on its roof. The 25 feet motor cutter is in its davits and the ship's nameboard is below the rack of liferafts on the side of the hangar. A vertical format negative.
