On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the operations room between 31¼ and 35½ stations on 1 deck looking forward and to starboard from 33½ station showing the gunnery direction position. The plotting, range and bearing table is fitted with two telephones and two microphones. Gun direction and fire control junction boxes are against the forward bulkhead. The A.A. co-ordination plot and tote board is on the left. A Thermotank air condition unit is against the starboard fly bulkhead.
