The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). The boiler room downtake between 47½ and 49 stations on 01 deck
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the starboard side of 01 deck at 45 station showing the boiler room downtake on the centreline between 47½ and 49 stations. A fire hose stowage rack is fixed to the side of the downtake. The vertical ladder on the right leads up to the emergency conning position and the ladder on the left leads to the Seacat GWS 20 missile launcher and crew shelter.
