The Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959). In the R.C.M. equipment compartment between 38 and 40 stations on the centreline of 01 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is in the R.C.M. equipment compartment between 38 and 40 stations on the centreline of 01 deck looking forward and to port showing a single pedestal desk with a tubular steel chair and a two drawer filing cabinet. Two small bookshelves are on the bulkhead above the desk. There is nothing in the photograph to indicate the purpose of this compartment. On Admiralty plan number 899643/1 (NMM plan number NPD1588) the compartment is shown as the R.C.M. equipment compartment but the meaning of the initials is unknown. As the compartment is directly under the Type 277Q radar lattice mast it is assumed that it has some connection with radar or radio communications. Negative number N65815 is very similar.
