On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from the port side at 74 station showing three mess tables with bench seats in the centre of the port side. Against the side of the ship are settee berths with bunks above. Two rows of kit lockers are at the forward end of the mess with a greatcoat locker, mess locker and cleaning locker in the port forward corner. Ten kit lockers and a greatcoat locker are on the centreline of the mess on the right. Hammock rails are under the deckhead. An electric fire is alongside the door in the forward bulkhead.
