The photographer is in the emergency conning position between 46 and 47½ stations on 02 deck looking to port from the starboard side showing the compass on the left, the rudder indicator on the right and the communications panel against the port rail. Under way in the river is the bulk carrier Crystal Cube (1955) heading upstream in ballast. In Hawthorn, Leslie's dry dock is the tanker Caltex Kenya (1952) and alongside their fitting out berth is the cargo ship Linkmoor (1961).
