On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is inside the protective cage in the steering gear compartment between 75 and 80 stations on 3 deck looking to starboard and slightly forward from the port side at 78½ station showing the rear of the John Hastie & Co Ltd steering gear No. H.G.7160. The emergency steering position with a rudder position indicator and an azimuth repeater is in the centre of the photograph. A vice is fitted to the aft frame of the steering engine and three large open ended spanners are in a rack against the wire cage on the starboard side.
