On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is inside the protective cage in the steering gear compartment between 75 and 80 stations on 3 deck looking to port from the starboard side at 78½ station showing the rear of the John Hastie & Co Ltd steering gear No. H.G.7160. The emergency steering position with an azimuth repeater is in the centre of the photograph. A Fortis 10 vice is fitted to the aft frame of the steering engine. Two storage bins are against the rear cage. An emergency lantern is by the side of the open door in the port side of the cage and a telephone is against the port side of the ship.
