On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is on the forecastle by the jackstaff on 1 deck looking aft showing the anchor cable arrangements, the 4.5 inch gun turret, bridge and masts. Awning stanchions and lines are rigged on the forecastle. The steam capstan has a canvas cover over it. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. Astern is the tanker Solen (1961) fitting out. On the opposite side of the river is the cargo ship Linkmoor (1961) almost complete alongside the fitting berth of R & W Hawthorn, Leslie (Shipbuilders) Ltd.
