On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is in the mechanic's and seamen's mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward and to port from the starboard side of the mess at 61½ station showing two tables and bench seats with a third table in the left foreground. Three settee bunks are against the starboard side and the settees are fitted with raised side panels. Two bread lockers are also against the starboard side. Kit lockers, a refrigerator, an electric fire fitted to a pillar, a suitcase locker and dirty boot lockers are in the centre of the mess. Stairs leading up to 2 deck are on the left. Greatcoat lockers, suitcase lockers, a hammock stowage bin, two air conditioning units, an emergency cable stowage and a clock reading 4.44 are against the forward bulkhead. Near the starboard forward corner is the open watertight hatch leading down to the starboard plummer block compartment on 4 deck. Hammock rails are under the deckhead.
