On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the raised forecastle at 10 station on 1 deck looking aft and to port showing the breakwater and the 4.5 inch gun turret in the foreground. Awning stanchions and wires have been rigged over the forecastle and foredeck. The enclosed bridge, Mark 6M director, type 277Q radar mast and foremast are in the background. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The starboard funnel of the tanker Solen (1961) can be seen just to the right of the 6M director. The cargo ship Linkmoor (1961) is alongside Hawthorn, Leslie's fitting out berth on the opposite side of the river.
