The photographer is in the mechanic's and seamen's mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking aft from just to starboard of the centreline of the mess at 58 station showing hammock stowage and a kit locker in the foreground. Twelve kit lockers and a mess rack are on either side of the centreline. Kit lockers, mess racks, suitcase lockers, an electric fire, fuse panels and Norris Warming Co Ltd air conditioning units are against the aft bulkhead. The watertight door in the bulkhead is closed but not clipped. Hammock rails are under the deckhead.
