On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 23 and 27 stations on 3 deck looking to port from the starboard side at 26¼ station showing kit lockers, a clock, a Thermotank air conditioning unit, a mess cleaning gear locker, a greatcoat locker and hammock stowage against the aft bulkhead. In the foreground are two tables and bench seats. The shell hoist for the 4.5 inch guns is between the tables and a hammock stowage space, a refrigerator and a mess rack are close to the hoist. An electric fire, a mirror and an emergency connection box are fitted to each of the support pillars and a nest of 21 boot lockers is under the stairs leading up to 2 deck passageway. Kit lockers are in the centre of the mess. An electric fire, a Norris Warming Co Ltd air conditioning unit, kit lockers, a greatcoat locker and a games locker are against the forward bulkhead. Two tables and bench seats and two settee bunks are on the port side. Hammock rails are under the deckhead.
