On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Falmouth (1959) alongside the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd fitting out berth at Wallsend on the River Tyne between 1 and 25 July 1961. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 23 and 27 stations on 3 deck looking aft and to starboard from the port side at 23¾ station showing two tables and benches in the foreground. An electric fire, a mirror, a noticeboard and an emergency connection box are fitted to the support pillar. Two mess racks, a bookshelf, kit lockers and a refrigerator are near the shell hoist for the 4.5 inch guns. Under the stairs leading up to the passageway on 2 deck is a closed watertight hatch with a fire extinguisher, Oldham torch cases, four fire extinguisher cartridges and a nest of boot lockers alongside the hatch. Kit lockers, a fire hose basket, a Thermotank air conditioning unit, a mess cleaning gear locker and a Norris Warming Co Ltd air conditioning unit are against the aft bulkhead. Two tables with bench seats and two settee bunk units are on the starboard side. Hammock rails are under the deckhead.
