This water-coloured drawing depicts five ships in broadside views. Three are named, with the other two merely labelled “Slaver” (top left of the picture) and H.M.S. Packet (bottom right). The Havana and Matanzas paddle steamer, General Tacon (as named on the side of the ship), is shown in the centre of the image; Baltimore clipper, Costero, in the top right; and H.M.S. Pickle, commanded by Lt Philip Hast, in the bottom left. All the vessels are under full sail, or steam, and fly either naval, national or company flags at their sterns and mast heads.
