On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking aft from 19½ station on the starboard side showing a bookshelf, a noticeboard, coat hooks and a row of kit lockers against the ship's side. A table and a stack of four tubular steel chairs are in the centre and on right are an electric fire, a suitcase rack, coat hooks, boot lockers and kit lockers. An ironing board is against the aft bulkhead.
