On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to port from 21 station on the starboard side showing a suitcase rack with an electric fire and a fire extinguisher on the left. Against the forward bulkhead are a triple tier bunk unit, spray and flood valves for the 4.5 inch shell room, a mirror, kit lockers and a greatcoat locker. The stairs up to 2 deck are beyond the suitcase rack.
