On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking aft and to port from 19½ station on the starboard side showing a suitcase rack on the left. Three triple tier bunk units, the stairs up to 2 deck and the 4.5 inch shell hoist can be seen. A fire extinguisher and a distribution panel are against the 4.5 inch gun turret support column.
