On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking to port from 19½ station on the starboard side showing a triple tier bunk unit, spray and flood valves for the 4.5 inch shell room, a mirror, kit lockers, a greatcoat locker, and a mess locker against the forward bulkhead. The stairs up to 2 deck are in the centre with kit lockers and a triple tier bunk unit beyond them. On the left are triple tier bunk units, coat hooks and the 4.5 inch shell hoist.
