On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 23 and 27 stations on 3 deck looking forward from 26 station on the starboard side showing a triple tier bunk unit on the left with an electric fire in the left foreground. Four kit lockers, four boot lockers, a Thermotank air conditioning unit and an electric fire are against the forward bulkhead. A double settee bunk unit is against the ship's side on the right.
