On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking aft from 27½ station on the starboard side showing two double settee/bunk units on the right and a triple tier bunk unit against the aft bulkhead. Against the ship's side are four boot lockers with two other lockers above and a Thermotank air conditioning unit under the deckhead. An electric fire is fixed to the pillar.
