On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking to port from 27½ station on the starboard side showing four kit lockers, two boot lockers, a greatcoat locker, a double tier settee/bunk unit and a Thermotank air conditioning unit against the forward bulkhead. Two oil tight scuttles are in the deck. Bunk units are on the left running fore-and-aft and the stairs leading up to 2 deck are beyond. A vertical format negative.
