On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to port from 29½ station on the centreline showing kit lockers on the left. A double settee/bunk unit, a greatcoat locker, a litter bin and an automatic emergency lantern are against the forward bulkhead. Two folding tables are stored in the greatcoat locker. The stairs leading up to 2 deck are in the centre.
