On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking aft from 28 station on the port side showing an electric fire, kit lockers and a mess locker on the left. A triple tier bunk unit and a double sette/bunk unit are against the ship's side. A litter bin, an electric fire and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the aft bulkhead.
