On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 58 station on the starboard side showing a suitcase rack, a kit locker and a triple berth bunk unit against the ship's side. A Thermotank air conditioning unit, an automatic emergency lantern and an electric fire are against the forward bulkhead. In the left foreground is a watertight hatch leading down to the starboard plummer block compartment on 4 deck.
