On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward from 61½ station on the starboard side showing four triple berth bunk units and six kit lockers. A watertight hatch leading down to the starboard plummer block compartment on 4 deck is near the forward bulkhead.
