On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking aft from 58½ station on the port side showing two triple tier bunk units on the left. Two kit lockers, four boot lockers, an air conditioning unit and a double settee/bunk unit are against the ship's side on the right. Two bookshelves, an electric fire, and a hinged tabletop are against the aft bulkhead and a folding table is on the deck.
