On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 73 station on the centreline showing two tables and chairs in the foreground. Two double settee/bunk units, 15 boot lockers, a small locker and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the side of the ship. An electric fire is in the left foreground. Five kit lockers are against the forward bulkhead.
