On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from 74½ station on the port side showing a triple tier bunk unit, seven kit lockers and an electric fire against the aft bulkhead. Two triple tier bunk units and a suitcase rack with a mirror fitted to it are on the left. A watertight manhole is in the deck with two kit lockers next to it. A double settee/bunk unit is on the far side with a suitcase rack between it and the ship's side and a watertight manhole in the deck in front of it.
