On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the preparing space between 41 and 46¼ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward from 45 station showing a worktop and sink unit with shelves and cupboard under and a shelf above on the left. A tin opener is fitted to the end of the worktop and various cuts of beef are in trays on top. The two doors on the extreme left are access doors to the safety valves in the funnel casing. A cooking grill is against the forward bulkhead and to the right of it are the steam ovens in the galley. In the right foreground are the control panel for the galley range, two automatic emergency lanterns and a fire extinguisher.
