The 'Dreadnought', 104 Guns, At present Lying off Greenwich For The Seamen's Hospital

For notes see PAD6061. Although similar to the plates in Cooke's 'Shipping and Craft' of 1829, this is in a larger format and was done as a commission for the Seamen's Hospital Society in 1831, apparently for publicity purposes. It appears to show her shortly after her arrival off Greenwich 'for the Seamen's Hospital' and before the later legend identifying her shown in PAD6061 was painted on her side. For Cooke's original drawing see PAE6161. It is mounted with PAD6150 and PAD6151.

The classified advertisments (p. 1) of 'The Times' of 12 July 1831 includes notice of of a sale of 'fancy articles' to take place in the Painted Hall of Greenwich Hospital on Saturady 16th in aid of the Seamen's Hospital ship off Greenwich, under an organizing committee of ladies headed by the Dowager Countess of Dartmouth: adult entry 2 shillings, children 1 shilling.
