On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the pay and correspondence office between 32¾ and 35½ stations on the port side of 3 deck looking aft and to port from 33 station showing a desk with filing drawers under and cupboards above. Filing trays, papers and ledgers, including a Naval Secretariat Handbook, are on the desk. A combination safe and a sliding door cupboard are under a worktop against the ship's side. On the worktop is a covered electric machine, either a typewriter or a large calculator. Above the worktop are a noticeboard, on which a 1971 National Savings calendar is pinned, and a Thermotank air conditioning unit.
